SEO Company Going MultilingualJust this past weekend I reported that the small startup, SEOSLINGER, will be releasing its own search engine in mid August, and today rumors has it that the company is about to make another pivotal move, going international.

SEOSLINGER is going to launch a global outreach by going multilingual. At first thought going multilingual seems simple enough for a company where multiple languages are spoken to include French and Spanish in addition to English, but the challenges go beyond the inter-language transfer of meaning though, it also includes accommodating for the conventions of the target culture.

Implementing a multilingual site is not as simple as using an auto translator which lack linguistic and cultural considerations, both attributes important in making the translation easy for native readers to understand. In addition to the translational challenges of running a multilingual web site, there’s also the SEO factor where sites having multiple versions of the same content (post translation) can find their content devalued by search engines due to duplication (duplicate content). If that wasn’t enough, there’s also the challenge of pulling volumes of good quality international traffic through country specific search engines, perhaps the most difficult challenge of all.

How will the small startup tackle the challenges of internationalizing its web site where so many others with greeter resources have failed, is anybody’s guess. From a business perspective what is there to gain from internationalization?

Is internationalization a smart move for a small startup? Have you dealt with a similar endeavor? If you know of another company that has successfully internationalize, or not, write to us and share your thoughts and comments.

Until next time, this is Angelina DiMera wishing you peace.
